Building & Grounds Maintenance Worker

Reports to: Director of Support Operations
Payment Rate: Set by Board of Education
Exemption Status: Non-Exempt
Primary Purpose: The Buildings and Grounds Maintenance Worker maintains school buildings and grounds in top condition to ensure full and productive use of district facilities. To accomplish these tasks the Buildings and Grounds Maintenance Worker must work closely with the staff and administration U.S.D. No. 413.

Qualifications:
- A high school diploma/GED is required.
- A valid Kansas driver’s license.
- Experience in building and grounds operations is preferred but not required.
- Familiarity with computers and software relating to maintenance and inventory.
- Ability to initiate and complete work orders.
- Have a valid driver's license, be able to drive, and qualify under the district’s insurance carrier when driving a district vehicle.
- Ability to follow instructions from administrators or senior maintenance workers.
- Ability to use hand tools and power tools.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Health and inoculation certificate on file in the Central Office (after an employment offer is made).
- Desire to continue career improvement.
Essential Functions & General Responsibilities:
- Maintain school buildings and grounds in top condition to ensure full and productive use of district facilities.
- Ensure that all activities conform to district guidelines.
- Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community.
- React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
- Appropriately operate all equipment and machinery as necessary.
- Support the value of an education.
- Support the philosophy and vision of U.S.D. #413.

- Assist in maintaining school buildings and grounds in top condition.
- Maintains confidentiality for all student information.
- Assist in promoting the safety, health, and comfort of students and employees in school buildings and grounds.
- Maintains a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in all maintenance and repair projects.
- Perform maintenance, repair, and installation in connection with:
- Electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems
- Help with the installation of items inside of schools including but not limited to - Smart Boards, Bulletin boards, White Boards, Light bulbs (including projectors), TV's, and TV wall brackets.
- Exterior and interior of buildings,
- School grounds included but not limited to parking lots, landscaping and athletics fields
- Move equipment and materials within and between school buildings.
- Ability to fill in as a custodian as needed, where needed.
- Work overtime when emergencies arise in order to prevent disruption of the schools.
- Observe district policies at all times.
- Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas and techniques.
- Adhere to all district health and safety policies.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Support Operations, or Administrative Staff.
- An essential function of this position is attendance.
Physical Requirements:

- Requires prolonged sitting, stooping, bending, turning and reaching.
- Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
- Requires climbing and balancing.
- Occasional climbing of steps may be required in some buildings.
- Must work indoors and outdoors year-round.
- Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
- Must work in and around dust, fumes, and odors.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
- Must be able to work in noisy and crowded environments.
- Requires driving skills to work in various district buildings.
- Must react to a rapidly changing environment.
